“We describe a 60-year-old woman complaining of severe burning feet for 3 months. A neurological examination showed absent Achilles tendon reflexes; nerve conduction study demonstrated mild sensory neuropathy, and skin biopsy revealed a length-dependent

loss of intraepidermal nerve fibres. Haematological exams demonstrated a subclinical hypothyroidism and hormone replacement therapy was started. Cyclosporin A Conversely, symptomatic treatments for neuropathic pain were withdrawn after few days because of side effects. During the following months, thyroid function recovered, and the patient experienced a progressive decrease of neuropathic pain intensity. At 6- and 12-month follow-ups, nerve conduction study and clinical examination were normal, whereas skin biopsy demonstrated a complete reinnervation of the epidermis. Subclinical hypothyroidism is a possible cause of sensory neuropathy and hormone replacement therapy can prompt nerve regeneration.”

influence of the application of a continuous pulsed electric fields treatment (PEF treatment) to grape pomace on the evolution of colour and phenolic content of Cabernet Sauvignon red wines has been investigated. Wine from grape treated by PEF presented at the end of alcoholic fermentation higher colour intensity (0), total polyphenol index (TPI) and total anthocyanic content (TAC) than control wine. This effect was observed even although maceration time for PEF wine was 48 h shorter than for PHA-739358 chemical structure control. Differences remained during malolactic fermentation and maturation. After 4 months of aging in bottle, CL TPI and TAC of PEF wine were 38%, 22% and 11% higher respectively than the control. HPLC phenolic profiles of wines were qualitatively similar, without detecting a selective effect on an phenol. No significant differences in sensory attributes between wines were detected. “A high-oil-absorbing resin, which was a low crosslinking resin, was synthesized by conventional suspension copolymerization in this study. The effects of the monomer ratio, crosslinker, initiator, ratio of water to oil, and defined optimum reaction conditions were studied. The highest oil absorptivity of the resin was about 11.5 g/g in diesel and the oil-absorption saturation time was 3 days when the best process conditions were as follows: ratio of styrene to ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer = 40/60 w/w, amount of crosslinker divinylbenzene = 1.0 wt %, amount of benzoyl peroxide 1.0 wt %; proportion of gelatin to calcium phosphate 0.2 g/0.1 g, stirring speed = 500 r/min, and proportion of water to oil = 15 : 1.
